We operate, service, maintain and expand the energy supply networks according to our customers’ needs and requirements, which is our duty and responsibility. We are a service provider offering a powerful state-of-the-art infrastructure that is an essential prerequisite for the economic development and the high quality of life in our region.
Liberalised power and gas market
In the liberalised power and gas market, customers have the option to choose their energy suppliers but not their network operators. For this purpose, the transmission operation is subject to monitoring by the regulatory authority that defines conditions, rates and technical rules for our business relationships with our customers. In addition, we are obliged to meet strict safety regulations in the handling of our electrical and natural gas systems.
Legal unbundling
Kelag has spun off its grid operation into an independent company to meet the requirements of legal unbundling that stipulate that a utility company with more than 100,000 customers must organise its grid operation in an independent company. These provisions of EU have been taken over into Austrian law. The grid operator treats all market players equally and guarantees that all producers, energy suppliers and customers have free access to the network.
